I recently had the honor of having one of my designs included in the premier issue of the new Generation Q Magazine. My friend Scott Hansen asked me last spring if I could contribute a pattern for a "wearable" and I figured hey, a purse is wearable, right? I'd been planning on releasing the pattern for my Joey bag for a couple of years now but never got around to it so here it is!
The best part is seeing my name on the cover among such fabric luminaries as Sarah Fielke, Amy Ellis, Carrie Bloomston, and Victoria Findlay Wolfe. Wow. This magazine is loaded with beautiful projects and great articles on some of your favorite quilting folks. It's a must have. You can find it on the Generation Q website (as well as other online sewing stores) and I've seen it at Barnes & Noble as well as Jo-Ann's.
Or you can get a copy here! I'm giving away magazines to 2 lucky readers and a 3rd lucky reader will get a magazine PLUS the actual Joey Bag in the magazine! To be entered in the drawing you just need to go over to my new Facebook page and "like" it. I have some fun new stuff to announce soon and I felt funny using my old Fabritopia page since I'm having to change my focus. So that will be my new page (won't you please join?). I'll draw the winners when I get back from Quilt Market next week. I'll be free to announce some new things by then so I think the facebook page will be a fun place to hang out every so often.
Here are my previous versions of the Joey Bag. It includes a nifty pocket in the strap that is great for holding keys and things you need to grab quickly. That was Joey's idea so I thanked him by naming the bag after him. :)
It also has a nice flannel lined pocket for holding your glasses (I've never gotten a scratch on mine while using this pocket).
This is the style that I've outlined in the magazine instructions but you can make any sort of patchwork block you like (or use an unfinished block you've got lying around).
This is the other side and the pocket (lots and lots of pockets!) is great for things I need to keep reachable.
Anyhoo.....I'm off to Houston for Quilt Market this week! I'm going with my dear pal Bari J. and we are driving, ack! With her trailer, ack! Bari's got a beautiful new fabric collection and some wonderful new patterns to debut. It'll be a crazy adventure and I'll be back with lots of great pictures and all the fabric news I can get.
Have a wonderful week and don't forget to join my new Facebook page (it looks boring now but I promise it will get better really soon)!
