Fall Quilt Market 2010 Re-cap #4 (and massive give-away #4!)

I know this is taking forever but I have one more re-cap after this (and the big prize) the regular programming will resume.  Whew! 

I've been busy with home stuff but it's been fun to notice my patterns showing up at a bunch of new stores since Quilt Market (I'll update the sidebar soon).   I was tickled pink to see my designs on display in the main Moda booth (really an honor!).  Here is my Sunny Scallop Dress made from the new French General fabric that is coming in the spring.  Now here's a little secret....the dress is on the manniquin backwards but I was so excited to see it up there I just kept my mouth shut.  :)  I think it looks really pretty.

Here is my Evelyn Apron Skirt made from  Aneela Hoey's up coming Sherbet Pip collection (great fabric collection and a lot of buzzing about it).

And I was once again thrilled when I saw my pattern covers on display in the Tri State Printing booth.  Yay!

Okay, enough about me (really...I mean it....stop!)...and onto some gorgeous quilts.  I love the area where the quilts are on display at market.  It's a nice serene room and a good place to take your shoes off and walk your sore feet on some soft carpet. 

Not all of the quilt can be photographed due to copyright reasons (yes, the copycats are out there) but there are enough great things in the "okay to photograph" area to catch anyone's eye.  If you want to see more detail, just click on the pictures and you can see them bigger on flickr.

This one is called Tropical Apple and it was made by Caroline Mounier-Vehier with the help of Edith Frey.  Isn't it crazy and fun?  I wonder where she will keep it when it's done travelling to shows.  Wouldn't it be a great conversation piece sitting in the corner of the family rooom (under a spot light of course)?

This is called My Big Wide World by Ruth de Vos.  Wow! 

 

Here is Crazy in the Garden by Allison Aller.  It's covered with butterflies and humming birds and all sorts of garden friends.  So beautiful.

 

I LOVE this one!  It's Tea with Miss D. by Sandra Leichner and it's just exquisite and cute at the same time.

 

Here is a close up so you can see some more details.  Look at the quilting work!  The appliques!  Oh my.

This one is Longe Road Home by Peggy Parrot (I like her name!).  This quilt nearly glowed with all the gold and emerald colors contrasting against each other (and Toto too!).

Queen Bling by Traci Newburn.  I love all the ruffles and scallops.  And that chandelier!

Here's a close up of some of the crazy quilt details of her dress.  So much work and talent went into this!

This was a beautiful and moving quilt called Out of the Ruins, a Nation Thrives by Phyllis Binkley.  Look at the wrinkles on his face and the colors on those rocks.

 

This is a self portrait by Luke Haynes and it was simply amazing.  It was for sale (no price listed, I'm curious too) but I knew I'd have a hard time explaining the new bedspread to Joey.  Now, if he had made a quilt with Ty Pennington on it I'd be in there bidding alright (I'd worry about the explanation later).

I really love the quilted clothing (something I can really get behind).  This is "Maximum Impact" by Kathy Knapp and it is beautiful to look at as well as something I could imagine actually wearing.

Here is "Requiem Verde" by Gilbert Muniz.  Incredible.

 

The dolls are always fun too.  So whimsical and elfish looking (or is it elvish?).

Okay, another give away (The winner of the last give away is Jenifleur. Contratulations Jenifleur!)!  Give away #4 is a wonderful book by Annie Smith called The Ultimate Applique Guidebook and it is properly titled because it's a great resource book to have with lots of lessons and patterns (and it's signed especially for my readers!).  I'm also giving another beautiful pattern by Amy Butler as well as Sweet Ruby's Cooper's Cars quilt (seriously cute).  And of course 4 more stacks of the 2.5 inch square from Moda (I love these things!). 

This is a terrific give away and we have put the guard cat on duty to keep it safe.  You can tell by her expression that Schnelly will not tolerate any messing around with this stack of goodies.  So leave a comment and keep on sewing (Christmas is coming but I won't tell how many days since I don't want to start a panic).

Fall Quilt Market 2010 Re-cap #3 (and massive give-away #3!)

A few folks asked about the pronunciation of my name in the last post and here's my very first post in which I detail that (and my mother leaves a defensive comment).  Just think of Jonathan without the "than".  And thanks for asking!  :)

I have so many pictures of people at Quilt Market that I decided just to do a whole post on that.  The best part of market is getting together with "old friends" and making new friends.  I admire a lot of quilters and bloggers and it's such a treat to actually meet them in person.

Here are two of my favorite "old friends"...Mary Abreu and Bari J.  Mary just release a beautiful book (believe me, you want this book!) and she was kept very busy with signings and hand shaking.  Bari and I roomed together and it was like a slumber party for big girls.  She's a true friend and it was a joy to see people's faces light up when they saw her gorgeous booth (more on that later). 

Here they are having a mutual admiration of their cute shoes.  I should do a post just on shoes and bags at market because girls go crazy with the accessories here.

Here's a picture from the fabric 2.0 party Friday night.  A huge thanks to Kathy Miller, Caroline Devoy, and Stash Books for hosting this event!  I'm bummed that the only pictures I got of my friend Sandi Henderson are from behind.  But at least you can see here gorgeous green bag.  Here are Rebecca, Kristin (Sew Mama Sew), and Bari chatting (you had to chat loudly in this room!).  Rebecca has some cool stuff in the works and she roomed with Bari and I so it was really fun to get to know her in real life.

After the 2.0 party many of us decided to catch a meal and spend some more time chatting.  Here we have Mo Bedell, Bari J, Kathy Mack (Pink Chalk), Rebecca (Restitcherator), Monica (The Happy Zombie), Susanne from Stash Books, Charlie Scott, John Adams (Quilt Dad and Fat Quarterly), Heather (A la Mode), Ryan Walsh, Traci (Sew Hip), Elizabeth (oh Fransson!), Kristin, Cyndi Walker (Riley Blake), Brioni & Katy (from Fat Quarterly, all the way from England).  I sat next to Katy and although I've decided I'm past my "should I get a tattoo?" stage, she has the prettiest tattoos I've ever seen.

Here is Brioni's handbag!  It's a treasure trove of selvages and I couldn't stop gushing over it.

Here are the gals from Me and My Sister (Barb and Mary) and my Moda rep Ron.  These people are fun!  And I'm lucky enough to have Barb and Mary here locally in my part of the Phoenix area.

I was thrilled to meet the gals from Marie Madeline Studios.   They are so talented and their blog is such a sweet treat.  My daughters are big fans so it was a joy to chat with them (and their grandma)!

Elizabeth Hartman and Violet Craft.  Elizabeth has a new book out (I don't have it but will soon, and highly recommend it) and Violet has a fabric collection coming.  I met Violet in Portland this summer and it was fun to spend a little more time with her.

Yay!  I finally got to meet my friend Marie in real life!  Marie is one of my faithful pattern testers and bloggy friends and since she lives in the Houston area she was able to spend the day at market.  I think she had fun and I sure had fun chatting in person!

Anne and Val (Maxfield & Pillow in order), Meg McElwee of Sew Liberated (with another baby on the way!), and myself.  Meg's husband was with her and he's such a nice guy!

And here is Pam Kitty Morning in Elizabeth's beautiful booth.  If my name were Pam I would've snuck away with that foot stool.  Actually I would've taken it anyway but Pam kept a pretty good eye on it.

 

Here is Elizabeth (and look at my outfits up on the wall!!).  I was lucky enough to get to play with her fabric called Red Rose Farm.  It's just gorgeous no matter what you make with it.  Which leads me too......

Fall Quilt Market 2010 Re-cap #2 (and massive give-away #2!)

Sorry for the long delay between posts.  Life gets complicated sometimes and something as small as a dead battery in my camera has the ability to throw my completely off kilter sometimes.  Anyway, more booths from market!

Here is Amy Butlers booth which one for best double booth (I think she's won this award a few times now).  Very pretty and soothing (but lively too).

Here is Cynthia Mann from Fabricworm with her collection of fabrics called Birch.  I love her retro-modern style and that quilt on the right is just wow!

I just swooned over this collection called Rhapsody in Bloom by Maywood.  I'm a sucker for roses and this has plenty of them.

Here are Liesl Gibson of Oliver & S. and her husband.  She's got a fabric collection with Moda now so her booth was in with all the Moda gang and she's a good fit with all the nice folks at Moda (they really are a great bunch!).

Over in the Michael Miller area was this beautiful display of the new Michael Miller Clubhouse collection.  They have a new "club" that store customers can join and you put together parts of your quilt over time and then end up with a truly beautiful finished product.  I love this new concept and it makes an intimidating quilt a very manageable project.

Here is Jana of Izzy & Ivy (who unfortunately was called Jona a few times, but I'm often timed called Jonah so I told her to suck it up Princess).  Here booth was adorable and that grey coat in the front is a must have pattern.  I was fortunate to spend some time with Jana and she is so much fun.  I can't wait to see her in the Spring!

 

Bunny Hill Designs had a wonderful booth and I wish my kids had had a nursery this gorgeous when they were babies.  Simply darling!

 

Here's a close up of a quilt John Adams (Quilt Dad!) made for Tula Pink.  Just wow.

Echino is always a fun booth to visit and this View Master print just about gave me fits.  Isn't it crazy and wonderful?!

Weeeeee!

This deer was so fun and bizarre at the same time I found myself just standing there and staring at it. 

This is the booth of Jennifer Heynen ("Jennifer Jangles") and this girl is loaded with talent.  Fabric, buttons, patterns, everything!  I'm keeping my eye on this gal.  Isn't this booth terrific???

Fall Quilt Market 2010 Re-cap #1 (and massive give-away #1!)

I'm still in recovery mode here but thought I would share some booths from Fall Quilt Market 2010 and start the give-aways.  I'll have 5 days of great goodies in a row so don't go to far from your computer!

I just have to start out with this booth.  I know you can't see much of the booth but honestly, who's looking at the booth?  Not me!  I just happened to show up right when Ty Pennington arrived and before the line formed.  My lucky day, right?

Okay, now that I got that out of my system....here are some more booths.  My sweet friends Val and Anne (Pillow and Maxfield) have a stunning new collection out called Gypsy Bandana with Michael Miller.  It's rich and colorful and has beautiful border prints and big square bandana panels.  I love these gals and their designs just keep getting better and better.  Oh, and the booth was a real feast for the eyes too.

Patty Young had a beautiful booth (as usual!) and the wallpaper was so much fun.  Everyone kept touching it to see if it was real bricks.  She has a beautiful new collection called Sanctuary and it includes some soft and silky lawn fabric.  Here are Patty and Elinor Peace Bailey.  So much color!

This is Kay Whitt's darling booth and Caroline Devoy of J. Caroline (seen here talking with Kay) covered that stunning pink chair.  I will show a better picture later this week when I share all of the Halloween costumes. Kay's costume was the bees knees.

Here is Joanna Figeuroa in her booth over in the Moda compound.  Joanna always has such a pretty booth and her colors somehow manage to be soothing and happy at the same time.  Look at the wood floor!  I adore Joanna!

Here is Chelsea Andersen in her heavenly booth.  Chelsea has some new patterns and a new collection of fabric coming out!  Her booth was so beautiful and a wonderful backdrop for all of her pretty items.

Tula Pink has a collection coming out called Parisville and she is now with Free Spirit so she came out with a bang in this truly remarkable booth.  Those ships are part of a black and white quilt and it was a work of art itself. 

It was a crazy, gorgeous booth with layers and layers of texture and surprises.  You could stand there forever just to take it all in.  I think I heard more people oohing and aahing at this quilt than any of the others.

Tina Givens won 2nd prize for a double booth and her booth was really fun and snazzy.  She's a very sweet lady and it's always a treat to see her new creations (a book this time!).

And Kaffe Fassett's booth is unmistakable.  He's always there working on his needlework and is very sweet about chatting folks up.

Okay, I have a lot more booths to share this week as well as other Quilt Market delights but I want to share some loot with you now.  I won a couple of drawings and received some sweet hand outs so I'm passing them on (it really is a treasure trove so don't go to far from your computer this week).  Today's catch is a pattern from Trish Preston's Two Peas in a Pod pattern collection (an apron top w/matching doll top pattern), 2 patterns from Craft Apple (a quilt and a "Patchfolio"), 4 packs of 2.5" squares from Moda's newest collections (this is a real treat!) and a beautiful catalog of Amy Butler's latest creations (just for eye candy, but what eye candy it is).
